Evacuation chair

WHAT`s an evacuation chair?

WITH AN EVACUATION CHAIR, PEOPLE WITH LESS MOBILITY CAN BE EVACUATED SAFELY, QUICKLY AND COMFORTABLY IN A SITTING POSITION OVER THE STEPS OF THE EVACUATION STAIRS. DURING AN EVACUATION THE ELEVATORS CAN NOT BE USED: THE STAIRS IS THE ONLY SOLUTION TO COME DOWN TO GROUND LEVEL.

Besides, most buildings are accessible for persons with a reduced mobility (PRM’s). It is difficult to bring these people to safety in an emergency situation, because they are often dependent on the elevator during an evacuation.

THE FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR EVACUATING PEOPLE FROM YOUR BUILDING!

Ensure that your general emergency evacuation plan (GEEP) and your personal emergency evacuation plan (PEEP) are up to date. Emergencies by definition are sudden events and the objective is to be prepared. Are you prepared to take that risk?

VERTICAL EVACUATION WITH EVACUATION CHAIRS

Did you know that statistics show that 15% of people present in your building have some sort of disability? Of those people, some of them will require extra assistance in getting down stairs and to a place of safety. Escape Mobility Company developed high-quality evacuation equipment especially made for emergency situations for different institutions. By using an evacuation equipment it is easier for people with mobility issues, wheelchair users and heavily pregnant people to evacuate in a seated position quickly, safely and comfortably in the event of an emergency situation.

These evacuation chairs are easy to use and can be operated by a single person. They can also be used as part of everyday life on a hospital ward, for example. If a person has to tackle a staircase, these chairs can be used as a back-up if something goes wrong. Better to ensure the safety of your people than regret it later.

HISTORY OF the evacuation chair

The evacuation specialist Escape Mobility Company (formerly Van Leeuwen Companies) has been offering solutions in Europe for evacuating and transferring people in buildings since 1987.  Herman van Leeuwen introduced a completely new way of evacuating people from buildings in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. Sitting in an evacuation chair, a person with mobility issues could be transported down the stairs safely and quickly.

Under the then company name Trading Company H. van Leeuwen and later Van Leeuwen Companies evacuation chairs were assembled and delivered. Later the company name changed to Escape Mobility Company. In 2003, new models of evacuation chairs were introduced. First under the name ‘Van Leeuwen evacuation chair’ and in 2006, we launched the Escape-Chair® range of evacuation chairs. These newer models are more suited to the changing needs of customers and the latest safety requirements. Escape products are developed in-house. This enables our Research & Development Department to respond continuously to the wishes of our customers and also respond to changes in the latest safety requirements.

ALTERNATIVES FOR AN EVACUATION CHAIR

Although an evacuation chair is a reliable, safe and quick way to evacuate people vertically, there are alternatives for this:  ·

  • Stretcher
  • Evacuation mattress
  • Drag mattress
  • Evacuation sheets

WHY ESCAPE-CHAIR®?

The unique sliding / braking system makes the braking of the Escape-Chair® possible on all different kinds of stairs, from wood to concrete. This braking system is optimized by the weight of the evacuee, in combination with the pressure of the operator pushing down on the handle in the direction of the stairs. Our Evacuation chairs are suitable for all stairs, except spiral stairs and stairs steeper than 40 degrees. Evacuation mattresses and evacuation sheets are more suitable for this. Evacuation is possible with one person, but our advice is always to evacuate with two people. Our Escape-Chairs are also compact and easy to store, CE Certified and TÜV Tested up to 185 KG.
