About Escape Mobility
Escape Mobility Company provides high quality evacuation solutions, like the products Escape-Chair® and Escape-Mattress® since 1987. Our international company is located in The Netherlands (Head Office), Belgium, United Kingdom, Germany and USA. In addition, Escape Mobility Company is represented by a network of distributers worldwide who supply our evacuation products in their own region.
Why evacuation products?
In case of a calamity, like fire-, smoke alarm or gas escape, all people in the building need to evacuate as safe and quick as possible. However, in case the elevator cannot or may not be used, using the stairs to leave the building is the only option. In case there are people present that need extra assistance leaving the building, it is of upmost importance that evacuation equipment is available.
Who is at risk?
People with visible limitations to use the stairs like people with knee or leg injuries, elderly, pregnant women, people with obesity and disabled people. Also people with invisible limitations like heart- or lung problems, mentally disabled, disorientated people and people with a fragile condition need assistance to evacuate quickly in case of an emergency.
The fire and rescue service is not responsible for evacuating people from your building!
Ensure that your general emergency situation plan (GEEP) and your personal emergency evacuation plan (PEEP) are up to date. Emergencies by definition are sudden events and the objective is to be prepared. Are you prepared tot take that risk?
Why choose Escape Mobility Company?
The Escape-Chair® is classified within the EU as a ‘medical device’ and therefore must conform to the provisions of the Medical Devices Directive, 93/42/EEC (2002) which requires all such devices to carry the CE mark. All of our Escape-Chair® and Escape-Mattress® range of evacuation solutions are produced in Europe, with main supply from Germany and The Netherlands. All of our evacuation equipment is produced to ISO 9001 standard and is tested to TÜV certification. We also do building assesments on fire evacuation in the UK market.
Innovation and customisation
Our Escape products are developed in-house. This enables our Research & Development Department to respond continuously to the wishes of our Customers and also respond to changes in the latest safety requirements. As a result of this, it may imply the further development of an existing product or even the design of a completely new product. We can also manufacture customised accessories to our Customer’s specifications.
The most recent modifications:
ESCAPE-CHAIR® – CF MODEL AND ST-PLUS MODEL
We have made improvements to the operating handle. The locking mechanism, which is disconnected when the operating handle is extracted, has been relocated to the side of the rescue worker, making it more easy to operate.
All Escape-Chair® models are provided with a storage case under the seat for storing information and personal documents of the evacuee.
The most recent new products:
ESCAPE-CHAIR® – XS MODEL
This narrow model was initially developed as an evacuation seat to be used in aircraft, due to the limited space in an aircraft (for the benefit of storage as well as transport through the narrow aisles of an aircraft). In the meantime, this model has also become popular for situations in which there is little room for evacuation.
ESCAPE-MATTRESS® – STRETCHER MODEL
This Escape-Mattress® replaces the standard mattress on an ambulance stretcher. If a patient cannot be reached with a stretcher (for example because of the presence of stairs or other obstacles) this Escape-Mattress® can be folded out to become a towed mattress.
Example of customisation:
Modified Escape-Mattress® model for children.
Courage, innovation and knowledge of the market
The history of Escape Mobility Company dates back to 1987. In that year, the Managing Director, Herman van Leeuwen, introduced a whole new way of evacuating persons from buildings in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.
Seated in an evacuation chair, a person in need of some assistance could be transported down the steps of a staircase. Up until then, this evacuation method had been unknown in these countries and demonstrations drew large numbers of interested visitors.
At that time under the Company name ‘Handelsmaatschappij H. van Leeuwen’ and later the name ‘van Leeuwen Companies’, evacuation chairs were assembled and supplied.
Later, the name ‘van Leeuwen Companies’ was changed into ‘Escape Mobility Company’, in order to reflect within the name of the Company, the link between the Escape products and the Mobility products.
These Mobility products are products intended for the regular transportation of persons and goods (via staircases).
An in-house development: from ‘van Leeuwen evacuation chair' to Escape-Chair®
In 2003, our company introduced updated models of evacuation chairs. At first under the name of ‘van Leeuwen evacuation chair’ and, since 2006, the completely updated Escape-Chair®. These updated models complied better with the changing needs of the customers and the latest safety requirements and were (and still are) developed further and assembled in-house. Nowadays, Customers of Escape Mobility Company can choose from five Escape-Chair® models.
Evacuating in a lying position
At the end of 2006, Escape Mobility Company developed the first evacuation mattress (Fold model). This Escape-Mattress® was a solution to evacuation problems in buildings where persons must be evacuated in a lying position or where there were spiral staircases. Not only this, a huge demand for this product came from the care environment, where the majority of the clients are extremely vulnerable.
The Escape-Mattress® range was then extended with two more models with the same functionality, but suitable for a different storage method (Solo and Compact models). In the course of time, the Evacuationsheet was also added as an addition to the range of evacuation products offered. The Escape-Mattress® Healthcare was launched in 2012, especially for the Healthcare sector. Along with the Escape-Mattress® Stretcher, designed for Emergency Services.
Expansion to total supplier
Escape Mobility Company continued to develop itself as a specialist in evacuation products. Thanks to the confidence which had been built up over many years, Escape Mobility Company was asked by several Customers to become their total supplier of evacuation products, first aid and emergency response products. The first catalogue offering a full range was issued in January 2007.
Development of Escape-Carry Chair®
In response to the needs of the Emergency Services, the evacuation chair was developed to include carrying handles. In 2008 came further developments, being a unique series of evacuation and carry chairs for the Emergency Services: the Escape-Carry Chair®.
Several accessories for the Escape-Chair® and the Escape-Carry Chair® have been developed in-house over the years. Especially for those who need more support when in a sitting position (for example elderly persons or persons with a physical limitation); the raised seat; the fixation harness; the fixation headrest and an extra wide backrest are all good examples of the practical, market-oriented and innovative approach of Escape Mobility Company.
